About The Fabric Bug

The Fabric Bug is a family run business with two shops.  We have a studio & shop in the heart of Sherwood Forest in Edwinstowe where many of our products are made as well as sold.   We also have a second shop in Mercia Marina, Derbyshire, launched in January 2023.

The business began more than a decade ago, from home selling through craft fairs and a website.  We then opened our shop and studio at the Art & Craft Centre in Sherwood Forest with Robin Hood a regular sight through our shop window!

Following the sucess of the Sherwood Forest store we have now opened a second shop at Merica Marina in Derbyshire.

Complimenting the products we hand make are carefully selected children’s toys, gifts, nursery decor and children's clothing .  Our aim is to offer traditional toys in contemporary design.  We stock quality brands such as Wilberry, Mary Meyer, Sass & Belle, Tender Leaf, Lanka Kade, Viga and Orange Tree Toys.

Personalisation is a big part of what we do and we offer a bespoke service, if you need to discuss anything then please contact us.

My Story

I’m Joanne Barker, owner, sewer, embroiderer, shop manager and generally everything Bug!  I am supported by a great family that get roped into many aspects of the business.

If you visit the shop you will see in the work area the embroidery I created at Junior school,  in taking GCSE Textiles I won the Bayeux tapestry prize (in 1988!). My background is predominantly in hand sewing but the acquisition of an embroidery machine resulted in the creation of The Fabric Bug.

My aim is to offer every customer an exceptional service.  Whilst I enjoy customer interactions I am camera shy so you won’t see images of me on here.  Our Fabric Bug characters, Freddy the Fox, Hattie the Hedgehog and Sidney Squirrel do make up for that though!
